ONE
whenever i see old people getting baptised, i've always thought it was poignant yet heartwarming. today during service, i saw an old man earnestly kneeling before the Lord, ready to enter the family of God. after he was baptised by Rev See, the lady beside the old man (whom i assume is his daughter, if not, relative or friend) gave him a tight hug, as if saying "finally!". for some reason, that scene really moved me. it's inspiring how these people take their salvation so seriously. and no matter how many wrong turns this old man had probably taken in his entire life, in the end he still returned to the Lord. i'm happy for him.
TWO
today during service, announcements were being made for 2 elderly from my church who had recently passed away. though it has appeared many times before, the phrase “安息主怀” on the bulletin struck me today. i'm thankful to have accepted Christ as my personal saviour, embracing this hope for eternal life after i die in this material world. it makes death a less scarier prospect, but rather, a comforting & restful one.
THREE
i realised it's probably tougher for choir members to blend in their voices with one another than it is for band members to blend in the sounds from their instruments with one another. for wind instruments, perhaps you just gotta listen down to the people around you and adjust your embouchure & air speed accordingly to achieve a unified tone. however, the human voice is such a unique and individualistic instrument with certain limits.. sometimes there's only so much your voice can adjust.
joyce & i were the only altos for carolling practice today and i realised how different our voices really are. while her voice is loud & her tone bright, my voice is softer & has a darker tone. i don't think we blend in very well with each other. perhaps i might even say that her voice is equivalent to a trumpet & mine a euphonium. there's no good or bad to this, but it's just different. mine matches better with yomay's though.
of course, this is just my unprofessional observation. technically, joyce is a pseudo-alto. till recently, she has always been a soprano!
