He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death," he said to them. "Stay here and keep watch." Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. "Abba, Father," he said, "everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."
- Mark 14:33-36
a mixture of sorrow and guilt never fails to creep into my heart whenever i read about Jesus' prayers in Gethsemane. the scripture never fails to remind me that like any other human, like us, He feels pain and grief as well. yet out of love for His sheep (us!) and obedience to God, He did what He came for and died on the cross for us, every sin of ours nailed on that cross along with Him.
such a suffering is really unbearable, for human standards.
the physical, mental and emotional torture He went through.
yet He did it, for us.
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
- John 15:13
what am i doing in response to such Great Love?
my chains are gone, i've been set free,
my Lord my Saviour has ransomed me.
how could i still be living in the dens of self-reliance, doubt and sin?
