"Your attention please, the train that is approaching Platform A is not for passenger service. Please wait for the next train. Thank You."
this announcement is way too familiar. you've heard it before. i've heard it many times, especially at yishun, the station of terminating trains. recently, i've noticed that such an announcement generates a few different responses from commuters.
there are the "lost" people who are lost in their own world, either in thoughts or in the music issuing from their earphones. they are ignorant to the crisp clear announcements and end up embarrassing themselves by entering the empty train and getting chased out by the train officers.
there are the "half-hearted" people who still listen to their music, yet the announcement doesn't go through their brain system unprocessed. they may not pay as much attention to it as to their music, but they eventually get the gist of what they have to do, or in this case, what not to do.
there are the "obedient" people who are aware, alert and listen to the announcement, who knowingly abide by the command and refrain from boarding the train.
this reminds me of our choice and ability to discern God's voice in our lives. it's sad but true how often we get pulled away by the influences of the world and turned a deaf ear to God, to the extent that it becomes so natural, yet regretful. may it be His calling, His command or simply His fatherly pleas for us to come back to Him, sometimes He whispers and sometimes He shouts. but can we even hear Him when He shouts?
the "lost", the "half-hearted", the "obedient".
which one am i?
which one do i want to become?
