love, life, soul

i'm thinking of what wei said about a man who not only didn't chide his wife for sobbing in public, but allowed her to cry to her heart's content and being there for her.

i was touched greatly.

not about your face and "reputation" in the sight of others, but the deep understanding and sensitivity towards the needs of your loved one. looking not at the appearance, but at the heart of all things; well, i guess that's what true love embodies. (:

this leads to me to think that the difference between a wedding and marriage is like the difference between a ceremony and a life journey.

gareth likened this to our relationship with God, which i think is so true! we may be involved in many ceremonies like baptism and 立约门徒, which are undeniably essential, but what's more important ultimately, is our walk with God. the relationship, the commitment, the faithfulness, the journey for the rest of our lives.

watched "black swan" with karryn a few days back.
what a thought-provoking film!

at the closing scene, the female lead whispered, "i felt it.. it was perfect" and died peacefully. the scene faded out with the audience chanting her name repeatedly. she had reached the prime of her career. to her, she had succeeded.

but that led me to think, is it really worth it?

she had no true friends. she had hurt her mother deeply. the scene of her mum crying so hard when she was about to die was so sad! she had lost her soul, to the dark side.

she would be remembered, for the "perfection" of her career, but not who she was as a person.

is it really worth it?

"What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?" - Matthew 16:26

it's a dark world out there.
oh Lord, fill us with Your light.

  1. Hmm, I'd like to think Nina didn't die.
It didn't come across to me that she died there, to me it was more like she fainted due to the massive blood loss. I think she'll recover from this if she does survive? I have a feeling she may not not be able to dance again if so, and she'd recover from this whole psychological mess. After she realise she didn't kill Lily I think she snapped out of it. I'd like to think that way... haha just my two cents :)

  2. haha you're imaginative! possible.. i'd like to think that she died though. it's like the final 豁出去 kinda act, like how the last act of a bee can so climatic but eventually costs its life. different interpretations i guess.

  3. oh and i think the "dying" of nina can also be parallel to the dying of the white swan at the ending scene, which is rather romantic i realised. that's why i think she really died. haha.
